Born in Hamburg in 1891, Dr. Hans Galform was the son of a respected shipping magnate whose family had long-standing ties to Germany's maritime and industrial elite. Volunteering for military service in 1914, Galform served as an artillery officer on both the Western and Eastern Fronts.
